Marching Band, originally uploaded by k4hahn.

A great shot of the band at Homecoming!

Web 2.0 Challenge 9

Ok. The Skype challenge was definately more of a challenge for me just because I needed to find someone to use it with me. But low and behold....it is done. I am not sure how I could use this in band, but I know that it has been used at the college level to do applied lessons on instruments.

Web 2.0 Challenge 8

Everyone loves inspirational quotes...

I'm not sure how I could use this in Band, but I could see where it would be incredibly helpful in our Theory classes. I'll have to sit down with a cup of coffee one weekend (soon!) and experiment!

Even the Pros have bad days

This is an excerpt from the West Side Story studio recording. Bernstein comes close to completely losing it with Jose Carreras over rhythm. Ignore what Bernstein has in his mouth!!!! Unfortunately, embedding was disabled.

Web 2.0 Challenge 7

This is my first experience with Social Bookmarking...I think it will be very handy and something that I will use a lot. I'm not sure how exactly I will use it with my students, although there have already been times this year that kids have wanted to show me something online and we've had to search for it, so if they were "social bookmarked" we could have just went that route.

a possibility

An old friend turned me on to this piece....thinking of doing it with combined Wind Ensemble and Concert Band....have to peruse the score first....

Yes I have better things to do today...but I could see where I could use this, especially as I begin to incorporate more student leadership into the band.

Web 2.0 Challenge 4

I have now created a page for the Prowler Bands, and have signed the band up for Twitter as well. While I was creating my FB page, I noticed that you can link FB to Twitter, which means I don't have to go to both sites to post. Anything I post on my FB page will automatically go to Twitter. Score! I'm all about making things easier.

I was bragging to a student about my wonderful new "techy" skills, and that student went farther and created a group for the band as well...maybe this will catch on? That student, however, also informed me that Twitter is for "old people..." Hhhmm...we'll see.

I was addicted to FB way before this challenge, and I have a personal Twitter acct, but I don't post a whole lot. I enjoy reading what the celebraties are doing, though. :)

My question and plea for help is: how do you get the Twitter and FB buttons on our school webpage?? As long as we have the pages, we may as well link them somehow.

Web 2.0 Challenge 3

Ok...I now have my RSS feed in Google Reader and the Google Reader gadget thing on my igoogle page. I could see me becoming significantly less productive while playing around with this. I haven't played around with adding too many things to my Ready, so I can't say if I would use this in my teaching or not. I know many people swear by it, so we'll see!

Web 2.0 Challenge 2

I'm way ahead of the game on this! :)

I love igoogle. I have used it now for 3 years (I think....my mind sometimes goes), and I absolutely live by it. The first thing I did when I got my computer here at school was set up my new igoogle page. I know...I'm a bit of a dork...but if you don't get satisfaction out of the little things....what's left?

Maybe I'll wait another day to try Challenge 3.

Web 2.0 Challenge 1

Alrighty then....

I have now started a blog that I will *hopefully* get in the habit of using to benefit my students. I can see where this will be very useful, it's just going to be a matter of doing it!

I can see me using this mainly to post video clips of performances that I want my students to see. There is a wealth of information out there that can make our band the best ever (plus I want to see what the super-duper cool prizes are.....).
